It has had problems losing antifreeze for awhile, but this week it overheats in the city, and only maintains a low temp on the highway. with the blowers on high, heat never comes out of the vents either. Is it just a bigger leak, or a more serious problem?

either a leak, clogged system or bad thermostat.

if you are loosing coolant, or puddles of coolant r under th car, its a leak. leaks are from bad hoses or a bad seal in the water pump or leaky radiator. if its a clogged system or a bad thermostat, you can check by opening the hood engine off engine cold, taking off the radiator cap, checking to see if coolant level is good, leaving radiator cap off and starting engine. let it idle for about ten minutes or till the temp guage shows heat. look to see if there's coolant flow in the radiator engine on be cautious not to get hurt by fan or hot coolant. if you no flow and engine is to get hot then its clogged or the thermostat is bad. if its clogged, you have to do a back flush, if its the thermostat, you have to replace it. its messy work but not too hard.
