I have a bad Camshaft Position Sensor. Where is it located |

I have a bad Camshaft Position Sensor. Where is it located on a 2001 GMC Jimmy 4WD six cyl.?

it's really inside the distributer cap
removal proceedure
Disconnect the spark plug wires and ignition coil wire from the distributor. Refer to Spark Plug Wire substitute .
Disconnect the camshaft position CMP sensor harness connector from the distributor.
Remove the distributor cap screws.
Remove the distributor cap.
Remove the rotor screws.
Remove the rotor.
Align the square slot in the reluctor wheel with the CMP sensor.
Remove the CMP screws.
Remove the CMP sensor.
Installation Procedure
Insert the CMP sensor through the reluctor wheel slot.
Install new CMP mounting screws.
Install the rotor onto the reluctor wheel.
Install rotor screws.
Install the distributor cap.
Install new distributor cap screws.
Connect the CMP sensor harness connector and plug wires

Look for it at either end of the cam shaft. My Ford put it at the back of the cam shaft driven by a perpendicular shaft that could have been used as a distributor if it had one. I have also seen them at the front of the motor as part of the camshaft pulley, but I forget which cars.

It is in the disttributor,it has a three wire plug in,that is pointed toward the firewall.When you remove it,rotate the engine, so you may be able to get acess to the small screws that secure it,and position the trigger slots so it'll slide out.
