Is it deisel?
On start up let it idle for three minutes before take off. Change up gears once possible. Never surpass 56 mph in top gear on motorways. don't use it for distances you could walk to and from in 20 minutes. WALK there.
Do you live in a hot country?
Minimise air conditioner use.
Does it ever see the inside of a garage?
Keep tyres inflated to 30psi.
Ensure air filter is in good nick

Here are some info to increase gas mileage in any vehicle: Check your tire pressure. If it's too low, add air to bring tires to their suggested pressure. Check your air filter. If it's dirty or old, replace it. Run your car's air conditioner less. Drive calmly. Avoid needless acceleration and braking. Tune up your car if these steps don't improve your mileage. Ask a mechanic to check the gap on your spark plugs. change or replace as needed. Ask a mechanic to look for fouled fuel injectors. Replace them as needed. Replace spark plug wires.

There is a web site called fuelsaver.com that's set up for the sale of HiClone fuelsaver merchandise. There are air filters that you may buy and install on your car that have stated an 8% increase on fuel economy. The same effect may be achieved from a K&N air filter or another high performance re usable filter. You may also do some simple things that will not cost you a penny:
Keep your engine tuned up. Incorrect fuel percentage, bad spark plugs and incorrect spark timing can have a big effect on gas mileage.
Don't use your air conditioner A/C unless you really need it. The A/C compressor puts another strain on the engine.
Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Under inflated tires because more resistance to travel.
Avoid stop and go traffic by taking alternative routes or less congested travel times.
Ask other people with the same kind of car what kind of gas mileage they get, it may alert you to a problem with your car.
Use a good engine oil, preferably a synthetic or standard oil treated with a friction decreasing oil additive. These have been recognized to enhance fuel economy by as much as 12%.
Reduce the weight in your car as much as possible. Good excuse to get the mother in law out of the car..
Use your cruise control whenever possible.
Keeping your highway speed at 55 mph can improve you gas mileage by as much as 25%, in comparison to 75 mph. Yeah, I know this one's tough for us too
Avoid trying to increase speed while climbing a hill, your engine is already working hard trying to overcome gravity.
Keep your windows closed when possible. Open windows really decrease gas mileage in comparison to using the A/C.
Remove accessories, like luggage rack, etc. that reduce the aerodynamics of your car.
