I own a shop, and you have to be informed here. 1st of all, your car comes with a high amperage alternator, and the cost of one of these is about $125 give or take some dollars. If you intend to have the job done, then do not get the alternator yourself. Reason? In our business we can not ensure, or replace free of charge any part that the buyer brings to us. If we use up some number of hours replacing a part you bring into the shop, and it turns out to be a flawed part, then unless we bought the part, we don't stand behind your part as we could be doing the job a second time free of charge, and you could be mad for us charging you labor two times. If we bought the part, then if its bad the parts store will make it good, and stand behind the labor to fix it again. majority of people do not understand this, and think they're saving mega bucks by to get the parts themselves, when in fact they end up on occasion paying for twice the labor. Now.. with this being said, it's still cheaper for you to change the alternator yourself, but don't forget to take off the battery cables before you change it. Any spark caused by a short circuit will damage the new alternator, so follow the information to the letter. If you have a shop do the job, then you may be able to expect to have the job done for about $200 or less. You could place a call to some shops around, and get an estimate to do the job over the phone. keep in mind the higher the amperage alternator you use, the higher the price will be. Many alternators are cheaper, but they may not put out enough power to keep your battery working like is should caused by accessories on your car.
Glad to help, Good Luck.

I`m thinking around $80 to $120 for the alternator at auto zone or advance auto. Maybe $35 to install if you stay out of the dealership.

first of all, you do not "fix" an alternator, you replace it. you may be able to go to your local autozone/o'reilly's or whatever you have in your town and you'll have two alternatives available to you. you may be able to either a buy a new alternator, which go for anywhere between $100 $300. or b you could buy a refurbished alternator and they are typically about half the cost of a new one. as well, most autozones and suppliers of that nature offer what they call a "core" which is they offer you a discount on a new or refurbished alternator if you give them your old one. these places also offer warranties on their merchandise
