I really had a t bird myself, and put a new radio in it. you will need a wiring harness. Go to wal mart and look in the car stereo part, get someone to assist you if you have to. I think they are in pinkish or purple ish boxes and will say something like "for Fords 88 92" or something like that. The wiring harnesses will connect perfectly to the wires in your t bird and the wires in the plug that came with the new deck. You may also think about best purchase or circuit city, if you purchase a deck there over $100 then they will install it free of charge, and ensure it. you'll have to purchase the wiring harness and possibly a mounting bracket from them must be from them which are like $20 a part but that is something you have gotta have anyway.

The best thing to do is go to Walmart or AutoZone and pick up the plug in adapter harness. they're only around $10 and you don't have to cut up the factory wiring.

There is a web site called installdr.com, it's the best site I have found for recognizing factory stereo wires, what color they're and the use of them, It also has pictures to guide you in the procedure if you aren't familiar with car stereo installation, I really used it today.
