If you had $40,000 could you get a new 2007 Lexus ES350 or a used 2004 LS430?
I heard the ES350 has more technology and the ride quality is just as good as the LS430. A con I have for the LS430 is that a new model of LS will be coming soon, and the LS430 will soon become a thing of the past.

You heard properly, the new ES350 is being called the baby LS. And it is because it's now has more technology and luxury features available than those of some earlier LS models.
I test drove one a couple of days ago and the ride is great. Plus it has great power, V6 with 272 hp and the LS V8 with 278. The engine is more advance and better gas mileage.
And if you haven't seen the new LS in person, you do not want to get an old LS 430 because the new model will make it look outdated. By the way, the new models of the LS will be the LS 460, LS 460L long wheel base and next spring the LS 600hL long wheel base hybrid .
And as some uninformed people think, the ES 350 isn't the same as a Camry. The older model was on the same frame, but not the same car. The new model is on a changed frame and Lexus vehicles use different metals and different properties in the kind of glass used in the vehicles, not to talk about a higher level of technology.
Go for the ES 350.

You can get a decent, dependable car for $18K, why waste the extra money? I'd put the extra money in a retirement fund if I were you.

If I had 40,000 for a Lexus..oh this is EASY.
I could use up $30,000 for a 2000 Lexus GS430.
Sure the ES is nice but its just a dressed up Camry, every mom and her mom has one. The LS is another nice car and rides nice. But every old man out there owns one.
The GS is best of all worlds into one car. You have the ride and comfort of a LS, you have the simple style, alike size and easy ergonomics of the ES but you have the raw power of that V8 under your foot. that's the difference.
Test drive a GS.take her out someplace and turn off the traction control and just punch it. she'll go sideways and roll smoke for as long as you stay in it. Raw hp. Then turn on traction and realize you have up to 16 computers tracking your every lean, roll and sway. attempt.and I mean this.TRY to get a GS broke free of its traction.
I have been around Lexus since 1993, I love them all. I use to just be in love with the old SC400 coupe till the GS was reborn into this unbelievable part of machinery.
The car will flat out amaze you.I ensure you this fact.
The 10,000 left over I could put into a vacation. ensuring on my drive there I had to pass through mountains, flat land, and beach just to test my new buy out. Let alone to show it off.
Now if you get a GS..the best color and the most rare is the Black Midnight Bordeaux pearl. A deep black burgundy that's just so deep looking its unreal. Top it off with all black leather interior.
One serious powerful position speaking part of machinery.

I could go with Bugzini's tell and attempt the GS. Then with the saved $10K, send it to BMWgirl instead so she can cover her fix costs over the life of her BMW, if she has one.

You should purchase a new one because used cars could on occasion be flawed.

I could go for used 2004 LS430. Why waste money purchasing a new car? Engine wise LS430 is much better and more powerful. ES350 is just a dress up variant of Camry.
