I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 which is the SE V6 in the 2007 and 2008 models. I got the car in 2005 when the model 1st came out so the car had some of those 1st model year bugs that Hyundai has since resolved. The two big problems I had with the car was the lack of seek buttons on the steering wheel controls and the suspension sound. Hyundai has since addressed both problems with the addition of seek buttons and they used a different set of shocks in the 2007 model. I test drove a 2007 out of curiosity when I heard they changed the shocks and found that the sound from the suspension had been remedied by this change.
The car is very calm and it's fast off the line. I really can not remember when last I floored the accelerator because it responds with such speed that it isn't needed. The transmission is somewhat slow to downshift but that I learned is caused by the torque lockup converter 1st having to disengage before allowing gear change. the torque lockup converter decreases needless gear changes throughout highway driving to save fuel The engine emits a low purr when it's 1st started and it sounds great when revved. The squeal of the tires when I do floor it's smile causing. opposite to many critics reviews I find the handling of the Sonata secure and exact with some but not lots of body roll. The Sonata is a mix of Accord and Camry ride and handling characteristics. The Sonata does the Car and Driver slalom @ 62mph while Camry and Accord do it @ 60 and 64mph in that order. I could say that I'm an violent driver at times but I usually average 23mpg with an mix of highway and city miles. The brakes are responsive and stop the car in a shorter distance from 60mph than the Accord or Camry. This is good for me because I tend to tailgate people that are driving slow in the leftmost lane.
I like the look of the Sonata and I know lots of people will disagree. The car is sleek and stylish. I do not like extreme folds in the sheet metal feature of some other cars. The interior is spacious and comfy though in the beige interior dirt and scuffs show up pretty easily. The dashboard is the only thing that looks off in this car. Simply using plastiwood straight across the dashboard incorporating the center vents while eliminating the wood around the A/C controls could fix its look look at the Mercedes S550 dashboard for example .
When you 1st drive a Sonata the ride may feel a bit severe and the fuel economy may not be as projected but as it's broken in you'll find that the ride will become more comfy and fuel economy will improve. In the city the Sonata doesn't return great fuel economy. I have gotten 17mpg in pure city driving. On the highway but, I have gotten 33+mpg @ 60mph, 29mpg @ 70mph, and 26mpg @ 80+mph.
I could recommend the Sonata due to price and the warranty and because you do not see it at every stop light. it's a great car and although the Japanese cars are better in some parts when it comes down to it I could rather save some cash on the Sonata and put the savings away. I certainly think you may want to check out the new Accord, Camry and Altima. When I bought my Sonata it was newly redesigned and those other cars were in the center of their design cycle. These cars are all new now and you may not decide the Sonata but the fact that it may be considered among those other cars is just a testament to how great a car it's.

from what I have amassed, hyundai has come a long way and the new sonata is supposedly on par with the accord and camry levels. personally, i'd think about both the accord and the camry before the sonata as good as it is supposed to be. you can not go wrong in the honda or toyota. other than to get a car that everyone else has.

Just my opinion. I have a 2002 Hyundai XG350L which served me GREAT. Mine only had a five year warranty, so I am on my own, now, but I still can not complain.

They do not make them anymore. If I wanted to replace it, the Sonata could be the closest. And now they offer a ten year warranty. very dependable. More so than the GM's and Chryslers I have had over the past some number of years. I have not bothered with Fords since the 1980's.

I had one on loan while my car was in the shop for a fix. I loved the car and nearly bought one. The car handled well and was a pleasure to drive. It had all the big features of an Accord. I could recommend the car.

I do not think you may be able to go wrong with any Hyundai. I have had my new 2007 about four months. I love the car and the warranty can not be beat.

I think hyundai is great car company. I have a 2005 hyundai accent with 33k miles on it and no problems what so ever. I like the sonatas style in comparison to the new toyota camry and the new 08 accord.
