I can't speak for the other cars but I owned a 2001 A4 Turbo with Quattro. Many of the used models for any car come from off lease which is a good/bad thing. Here is a fast cap of my opinion.
A4 Good points: great car, a real credit to German enginering. Outrageously tight suspension. Quattro rocks, a treat in snow, manuvers like a true Indy car. Interior except back seat is spacious and nearly no highway sound. Trunk can fit luggage or bodies. Bodies part is a joke.
A4 Bad points: Quattro burns brakes and tires out really quickly. Expect to replace tires every year to two years top. you have to WATCH THE OIL AND CHANGE MORE usually THEN SUGGESTED. All of the chat rooms I went to comfirmed that engine problems plague the A4 model, but much may be evaded by dilligent maintence. don't trust dealers to change oil for you. they'll not use the good vis. oil. substitute parts are costly.
The root of most of my problems with the car were from the dealership who has since changed hands nearly six times .
End assessment: If I had the money I could purchase one again, but someplace else. I have been in the Subaru and I do not think it compares. can not speak for the Saab.
Good luck with your new old car choice.

From my point of view, I recommend the Audi A4. 1st of all, check out the interior and dash's of the other cars, I think the Audi is way more lavish. as well, A4 has nice performance specifications with a nice fast and nibble suspension, in comparison to the other two vehicles., the cost of fixing the Audi could be the cheaper than the Saab if anything does go wrong, or you're involved in an accident.

Go with the A4. I so love mine. Maintaince and upkeep have been minimal and it handles like a dream. I could go on and on about it. I love it.

Get the A4 its the only real AWD car of the bunch If you may be able to get a clean S4 for a great price it could be worth it. The saab is just a GM product now not the same as they were quality wise.
