Ignore the others.
The Mazda 626 is the mother of the modern Mazda6. it's a nice car, simple ergonomics, and realiable. They have good resale value.
It is like a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord from the same time frame, just Mazda was not noticed much at that time like it's now.
I see them daily on car lots and they're usually the nicer of the bunch.
PS those that state Ford makes the Mazda, they're backwards. Mazda makes things for Ford behind closed doors. Perfect example.the Ford Ranger wasn't built by Ford but by Mazda and was intended by Mazda also. Ford was just the bigger company so it put its name on the part. Ford also owns Volvo but doesn't build their cars. In turn Ford is taking Volvo's technology and putting it into their cars. Mazda is the design center. It also produces the new Volvo S40 which is the Mazda3, the old 323, with different sheet metal.

mazda 626 is awful in looks as indicated by a friend who owned one, if you're just looking for a car to drive it could be okay but its not remarkable looking if you ask me .

It's dependable and sooooo economical.
but if your looking for a small or medium car get a mazda 626 2L
Not the 2.5L V6. it is ok.. but not good in petrol consumption
Parts are cheap and you hardly have to replace.
Mazda 121 to 929 is generally good in Ergonomics.
If you have more to use up get a Mazda six

The 626 is a good car. My wife has a 2001 and it has over 90k miles on it. Still runs strong. We changed the oil religiously at every 3k. If you may be able to pay for it, choose the V6 for extra pep and not more in gas intake.
But in general it was a good car for us.
