Is an older Audi a reasonable car?

Postby MyRide^ » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:19 am

If anybody knows about cars, I'm looking at some older Audi',s around 20032004, prices I have seen is around $9,500 to $11,000, which I can pay for, but I don',t want to fork that out if they aren't dependable with the higher miles and with it also being an older car. Any advice or professional opinions?

My husband got a 99 Audi A4, with 80,000 miles. The only thing wrong with the car was the light switch could not work on occasion, but you may be able to fix it by your self if you',re knowledgeable enough. Through research I learned lots of the A4',s do this and its not just his. if you're looking at an A4 be sure that the problem is fixed or if you get a warranty with it, be sure if protected for that sort of thing.

Power everything, moon roof, heated seats they',re awesome, six disc CD changer, its such a great car. I don',t think we',ll ever purchase anything else, that',s how nice his car is. And its nearly eleven yrs old, so 2003/2004 can only get better.

The up keep is pretty routine, new tires, change oil/filter, transmission oil/filter, brakes and what not. The only thing that I could changed is that, the 1st aid kit that came with the car was in German. haha There should be a book in the car saying if it has been serviced at a certified Audi mechanic, the dates and where it has been serviced at. And it'll show up on the dash when it'll have to be done.

They are really great cars, and they're worth the money for sure. Good luck.

European cars are no more dependable than American ones when they get around the six year mark.If you live in US,they are way costly to fix. Most shops only purchase the domestic and asian software for their diagnostics systems due to expense and small % of Euros they see.You could be looking at going to a expert instead of a doctor.Parts are so much higher and frequently take a week to get.European cars are the most problem about 810 yrs old.All the features that once made it cool will be a constant headache.11,000 dollars could sure purchase a nice Maxima.

They are cheap but immediatley require 35K in maintenance. I just put 3K in parts into my 02 A6.

If you do get one look for a 4.2 it's the best most dependable engine that Audi makes. After that I could go for the 2.7T. Avoid the 3.0 like the plague.

They aren't dependable. they'll run everyday but the Check engine light is generally on.until you put 3K in parts into it.
