I may go with a Honda Civic CRX with a blown B16B engine, completely spanked. It was rear heavy and low also so it cornered well. The Del Sol I do not know too much about except that a friend of mine had his rust out totally in a couple years.

Shudder

I've worked on them. And trust me, there are better things to change. purchase something higher quality like an Acura, which have the bigger engines from the factory anyways.

The CRX certainly has more cargo room. as well, it boasts a lot of the newer alternatives available from Honda unlike the discountinued Del Sol. A Del Sol had the mid engine which isn't a common honda design, so the parts will be a bit more hard to find.

If you may be able to get your hands on a Japanese market imported Del Sol with the electronic stow roof, then go for that. otherwise, the Del Sol sucked, which clarified the one generation cycle here in the U.S.

CRX, most likely too old a car to invest in now.

The CRX for sure. When it 1st came out the auto mags called it "the thin wallet Ferarrie. The CRX has many after market parts.

The CRX is one heck of lots nicer that the Del Sol. The Del Sol was a failure in the USA and I do not see much in the way of enhancements or screw on additions for it. The CRX does.

The CRX is not in production but came in three generations. The 1st generation, 1983 to 1987, doesn't have the refinements the second and 3rd generations got. exactly the independent suspension. although a 1st gen front end looks so much better with it is recessed headlights, the inferior suspension makes it a poor choice for a platform to enhance on.

Make sure which ever 2nd or third gen you purchase, it's the Si variant too. These will be fuel injected and come with a more performance minded transmission manual of course. and higher horse power engine.

Good luck.

Is crx nicer tha a del sol?

Most of these people commenting do not know what there talking about. I have a 1991 Honda crx si with a B18c motor with A DRAG generation three turbo kit and it puts out 304 dyno proven hp at the wheels car weights 2100lbs on the stock block reliably for over two years now. I am running a hondata fuel management system and the car is running 12.2 in the 1/4. The CRX obviously has more after market support making it cheaper and easier four you to make it faster then a delsol. plus the del sol is about 400 pounds heavier then the crx. lighter car = faster acceleration, better braking, and better handling, and typically more dangerous in a accident. If your are seriously looking for a crx, go for a 90 or 91 CRX Si model. they're the only CRX's that come with four wheel disc brakes. A CRX should also be cheaper two purchase firstly then the delsol because their blue book value is lower. The 1st mod you may want to do two your crx is dump the crappy stock d16 motor and find yourself a nice b18c out of a gsr integra or if your on a budget, a b16a is quite cost efficient. Here in SoCal, a b16a obd0 motor tranny and ecu may be bought easily for about 1300 as to a b18c setup will cost you about 3000. If your looking at driving your crx around with the stock motor keep this in mind. the crx Hf model has about 70 flywheel horse power on a good day. The DX model has 92 flywheel hp. And the Si has 108 flywheel hp. Althought the Si model was recognized to take well to aftermarket screw ons. it is still way underpowerd to play with the big dogs. do not waste time and money trying to mod it, save the money for that b18c gsr motor and a nice turbo kit. good luck with whatever car you end up chosing. latez. PS, some idiot on this thread said that the Del Sol has a midmounted engine. NOT TRUE. The engine in the del sol is under the hood like all honda's with exemption to the NSX.

Both are comfy and secure, the lateral post that protects you from front and lateral collitions are extra heavy and strong caused by the car being short at wheelbase. I do Know for sure because an accord gave me a hard shot direct driver door to bumper at full 55 mph. they are booth good to make faster with a b16a or b18, the k series is good choice for a motor but mods must be madeto accomodate. A del sol is a tad heavier than a crx caused by the roof and pillars being more bulky. But the advantage in this is that with a good suspension setting and wheels turning is better tan crx. The del sol also may be updated with acura integra parts for trades, got recaro seats comfy and if you put a good sound sistem the accoustic of the car is good. Now the dissadvantages are that the roof leaks when it rains so you have to change the weather strips, replace it with 97 parts, they're more advanced in design and crack the leak trouble. The si crx got a sun roof or moonroof based on the year and most likely will leak. No brainer they'll both go fast but you have to know the perfect set up and modz. A turbo or nitro will make a difference in both, also a v tech engine, type r parts and removing interior parts that only add weight, a good tip also is to use a set up of 17 wheels with tires that can run flat, that way you do not have to keep the spare in the trunk. Hondas are good and dependable but you have to know how to keep it in check as with any other brand of car, hope you get the right car for your style of driving. In my lifetime I had four of them and planning of selling mine to purchase another.

I could say that it's a matter of opinion. The CRX and the Del Sol are established off of the Civic. If you want a two seater, Del Sol, a four seater, CRX.They have the same motor. But for the price of a Del Sol, you could get a nice Acura Integra GS R. I am pretty sure that it's lots faster and better. Insurance may be a little higher although.
