I just went up a steep ramp into a parking structure and on my way up the low oil light came on. My husband is coming to put more oil in etc. Will it be ok? I am really not a lead foot impatient kind of driver.

Yes, don't purchase into the every 3000 mile hype, that's sold to us by the places that change your oil, or that sell oil. Look in your holders manual, they probably recommend that you change your oild every 4500 to 6000 miles. That being said, its most likely about time for you to go, some over doesnt hurt much, but don't put it off too long :

If your car is still running well, then I guess its okay. But you really should not wait so long. Its not good for the car. you may want to get it in for an oil change a soon as possible. So it does not develop any problems.

Get the oil changed ASAP. You most probably didn't harm the engine, but the mix of old dirty oil and a low oil isn't a good one.

YES. CHANGE YOUR OIL ABOUT EVERY 5K MI. IF YOU CHANGE IT NOW, CHANGE IT AGAIN AT 90K MI THEN AT 95K MI, ETC..

Most car manufacturers recommend an oil change every 3000 miles. If this is in town stop and go driving, you most likely want to change it more frequently. If this was highway miles at cruising speed for long trips, you may be able to extend it. But you're already 3500 miles past your scheduled oil change, so I could recommend you get it changed TODAY. Or, you may be able to have the engine replaced, in which case you will start out with new oil anyway.

low oil isn't out of oil this is okay, oil breaks down the hotter it gets and how dirty your engine is, so the more frequently you change the oil the cleaner the engine and the engine will last longer with less interior mechanical. problems.

You can get up to 6,000 miles before you start to do any damage. But to keep the engine super clean 3,000 mile changes are the norm. don't forget the new oil filter.

This depends on lots of factors.
First, do you plan on keeping this car a long time. The engine wear caused by old oil is not really a problem till the engine is pretty old. Then the miles of "abuse" tend to add up and can because more breakdowns.
Second, what kind of oil do you use? Synthetic oils can go nearly 10,000 miles without a change without any problem. Also the weight of the oil matters as heavier oils will hold up longer but are not suited to all motors and driving conditions.
Third, if these miles are all highway miles then they're less of a strain on the engine. You said you are not a lead foot and that is good, but stop and go traffic is just as bad as speeding, on occasion worse on an engine.
You can go more then 3000 miles on normal oil changes if you are good to your car. But simultaneously, warning lights are not a good sign. you have at least reached your bound with this oil change if you have not crossed over it. Get an oil change soon and look into changing to synthetic oils.

3000 Miles is the suggested change interval for regular petroleum established oils. This interval is lightly on the safe side as mentioned before but it offers the best chances of having a long lasting car. Oil will last past 3,000 but basic oil filters don't. If you run a synthetic oil, which many vehicles now come filled with from the factory you may be able to easily get at least 7500 miles out of it. If there's a particular interval suggested in your owner's manual it's best to follow it, but changing your oil is never a bad thing, and can only give to a longer lasting car, with a cooler running and more fuel economical engine.
Here is a link on some suggestions, and how to change it yourself if you like to.

also the newest synthetic oils can go six months or more verify with the place that changes the oil also attempt doing it yourself if your husband wants to attempt it saves about ten dollars a car every time but if the tens no problem go out for it also be sure they grease the joint and bearing as they go some time s they forget soo check the sheet after

The biggest factor in this question is your engine. If you have the 2.8 v6 I would not worry about it just get it changed quickly. If you have the 1.8t get it changed NOW with synthetic and do not go over 5k miles. VW and Audi have had big oil sludge problems with there 1.8t in line cars. I work at a vdub / audi dealer as a tech and I can tell you we make a killing replacing oil pick up tubes. And that is if the buyer is lucky drive too long and you also purchase a turbo. I have had them so bad as to require a new head and turbo. Most of the time if you to the make they'll warranty it for you. Heres the catch they'll want evidence of normal oil changes.

Approximately 3,000 miles or three months is the propose time between oil changes for most vehicles and driving situations. you may want to definately get your oil changed as it was well over that amount of time. The low oil light may have come on simply because you were tilted on the ramp, but that also means it must be close to the sensor inside. So it is okay for now, but you have to do it ASAP and keep a better eye on it at some point. Just because the car isn't acting up does not mean you should not be changing the oil. I knew someone once who did not realize she had to change the oil in the car, and never did till she got married, when her husband went to have it change the oil was so old it came out like molasses, thick, and oil is clearly not supposed to be thick.
