Is it illegal to have VTEC on a 97 Acura Integra LS in Calif

Hi I have a 97 Acura Integra LS and bought it on the streets not from a dealership the car came with a Vtec Controller no paperwork for it and im pretty sure it didn't come like that straight from the dealership im guessing the last owner put it on himself also as the headers are from a GSR. and the air intake is missing the sticker with a Code. I have another one at home from a friend that has a sticker although can I just exchange out my current air intake and put in the one that does have the sticker on? or was that sticker registered only to be used on the original car? When I tried to smog my car they told me I could not pass due to Vtec controller I believe, they pointed out to some wires that comed from the intake manifold and said "that shouldnt be there." and at the time a friend told me he thought those wires were from the Vtec controller, so I expected it was the vtec controller that didn't let me pass.

So im wondering is my car not street legal? And if so what is it that keeps it from being street legal and smogged?

Also if there's anyway for me to legally own that VTEC controller on my car let me know what I can do to make it legal to drive as I don't want to give it up lol

gsr and ls headers are pretty close to being the same. the gsr flow',s a little better. put the intake with the CARB sticker on it, in the car. if the car has the original ls motor in it, ditch the vtec controller and sell it. if it has a swapped motor in it, if I'm not mistaken, it can't be a jdm motor. it must be usdm. the simplest way to check this, is look at the block stamp. its next to the transmission sticker under the head. it'll say B18B1 for an ls, or B18C1 for a gsr. B18C5 for a type r. for jdm motors, they'll not have a number after the second letter ie: B18B. as for having a exchange in it, I don',t see why it wouldn',t pass. I have friends in california with H22 trades in their eg hatches, and they pass the emissions stuff out there.

youll be good unless th person really knows what to look for and that is typically a state ref. the intake are you talking about a carb sticker for aftermarket? if that is what then you may have a problem the legal way, . you may be able to exchange out for one that has a sticker they are not reg to a car. just tuck away those wires or remove and you may want to be fine
