Is my 2002 Jeep Wrangler able to tow a 20' sailboat, about 2000 lbs., from Virginia to southern NJ?
I have 80, 000 miles on it. What is the maximum towing capacity? How much is a trailer hitch?

Good comment noone i, you'll have to be sure your jeep is able of having a tow hitch. Some jeep bumpers have the hookup but they are for tow hooks being towed out of the mud or hooking up a bike rack or another accessories. If you're spending a $100 bucks on a tow hook you may want to look at the cost to rent a vehical to tow the ship. If you're only planning a day trip hertz and enterprise have some good deals, could defently be less then $100, anyway either way will work and be safe.

The maximum towing capacity suggested for your jeep is 2000 lbs. I could think a 20 foot sailboat may weigh more than that. But anyway you may be able to get a towing hitch for about a hundred bucks at you haul. Get your brakes checked if you do it. Also I think you shouldn't use overdrive or 5th gear while towing.

YES I JUST learned TODAY really, I don't REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE web site BUT THE TOWING CAP ON A JEEP WRANGLER IS 2000LBS. ITS QUESTIONABLE ON WETHER you may be able to TOW IT OR NOT BUT I THINK it'll BE good. GOOGLE TRAILER HITCHES because I don't KNOW HOW MUCH THEY COST. BY THE WAY IF ITS AN UNLIMITED IT CAN TOW 3500LBS.

Yes, it'll tow the sail ship. The key to this 2000lb bound on the Jeep Wrangler isn't the Jeep's capability to tow, but the Jeep's capability to control the object in tow because of its short wheel base.

The running gear in your Jeep is able of towing more than that 2000 lb bound, but you can not carefully to more than that because the little Jeep may be pushed around by the object that it's trying to tow.

Good luck in towing your sailboat to the Jersey Shore.

If you have a 6cyl you have enough power but with the short wheelbase you'll get lots of trailer sway.

Lets put it this way. You can be able to tow it, but.will you be able to control it, both at freeway speeds and most importantly, when braking.

Never tow more than you personally are able of handling, then, no more than the car can handle. There are WAY too many idiots on the road that are towing a trailer or ship or camper that don’t have business doing so.
