Is my volvo gona crap?

it has over 200259 on it and I cleaned the engine up. after that, drove home and the next day, startd it an it started shaking and the check eng light came on then I drove off an it's good. did that two times, an now its ok.. what can it be? sparkers are good along with wires..

If you went to a carwash &used a high pressure nozzle, you most likely knocked a wire or vacuum hose loose. Check all the connections. Give it time about a day to dry out. 200K is nothing for a car These days as long as you maintain it.

You most likely got the ignition wires or distributor wet, and the engine misfired, or not firing on one or more cylinders.

I have had Volvo's with close to 250K on them. As long as you keep up with maintenance, the engines and transmissions will keep on going.

Vacuum hoses could probably be the culprit. a lot of times those old rubber hoses give out after a cleaning, particularly if you used some kind of soap or detergent on them. As far the possibility of water in the ignition system, it should dry up with time. Just to be sure pull the cap off the distributor and spray a small blast of PB Blaster into it the bottom half . While you have the cap off look for corrosion on your cap contacts in the top half and on the rotor button bottom half . Good luck and don't give up on your VOLVO they run forever.

It sounds like it is doing good. My motto is, "It's not the miles of the car, it is the condition." Because you may be able to purchase a new car with zero miles and five years afterward it may start to break down or have other problems. On the other hand you could purchase a car with lots of miles on it that is in good condition and not have any problems.

It is probably a Vacuum hose or a loose electrical connection. I do not think any of these other people have ever owned a Volvo before and if they have, they have not taken good care of it. Volvos have infamously robust engines. If your Volvo is of the kind that has a red cast iron engine block, it may possibly last longer than you if you take good care of it. The red block engines can go over 1,000,000 mile with out a rebuild or big mechanical fix. also, the Aisian Warner AW70,AW71,AW71L and AW72 transmissions that Volvo used for many years are know for their near bullet evidence construction. With regular transmission liquid changes, a AW70 can run for 350,000 and who knows how much more.

No way just keep it serviced and it'll last you a life time. I see pics at my volvo service shop of older models with 450k up to 600k miles and still running great. Also the only car ever to get two million plus miles w/o a rebuild is a volvo, I believe it's in the guiness book. I drive a 98 C70 and it has 115k miles and still runs like new. do not give up on her .

I found the record holder for highest mileage, its a P1800.

it may be that the the ignition was wet or you put gasoline with a lower octane ranking than what it supposed to have

sounds like bad cap.you'll be good,so will the car.my volvo is just 35000 short of a million.plus my mor mor has her far far 1924 jabob volvo that still runs.They are FOR LIFE.

Check your distributor/spark plug wires. With 200K miles, they have probably been replaced some times, and have to be replaced again. The insulation cracks with the heating/cooling cycles every time you drive, and if you live in a state where you get snow, it is worse.

When the insualtion cracks, you have got exposed wires throwing high amperage from the distributor to the sparke plugs. If the wires are wet, they arc to the engine block or another metal grounds.

I had this problem on an '87 240GL in Illinois. It could chug upon startup on moist, foggy mornings from condensation, and clear up after some minutes. A mechanic told me to use a spray bottle and mist the wires with the engine off. Then turn it on and watch for a spark. don't TOUCH ANYTHING, like the wires or the distributor cap, as this is high amperage currant. If you see the wires curving to the block, you need new wires. they're pretty easy to do yourself.

Check all the wires and tubes. Clean the dirty parts of your car. If there's some broken wires or anything repair or replace it. If that dosent help try to seek help to car maintenance for professional help...
