All cars will lose value regardless what unless you're looking into Exotics and still they lose value too .
Toyota was in some trouble recently after the market went down, and their cars have lost more value than before. This will include all three lines: Toyota, Lexus and Scion. But Lexus is the one that maintained more value of the three because is a luxury brand.
If you're scared of losing value with a car, then don't purchase, just lease it. You pretty much pay for the current value, and give it back when the lease is done. If you do the math, youll see is better as the payments are lower than financing, and you don't have the headache of selling your old car afterward thinking you're losing money.
About changing, well, the IS got a new generation in 2006 with the introduction of the IS250 and IS350. afterward the ISF came to play as a costly choice, and the ISC which is the convertible. In 2009 the regular line 250 and 350 got a face lift so I doubt Lexus will introduce a third generation IS for at least another two years or so if not longer because of the economy .
But don't just think about the value as money. Toyota is famous for how long their cars last on the road. You don't typically see many Lexus around because they're luxury cars, and the people that have them typically lease them so they get returned afterward. But if you purchase it, you may be confident that your car will last any years.
And no, Lexus isn't an overpriced Toyota. Whoever says that, has clearly never driven or being inside one. Toyota produces cars for everyday use. Lexus produces LUXURY for whatever use. Lexus ensures that they can compete with Mercedes and BMW, and the only way to do so is producing good Toyota quality cars with a acute touch of Luxury.
The IS is the cheapest of their models, and still, when to get the basic IS250, you feel the difference now when you sit inside and start driving. trust me, you gotta attempt to understand it. And don't annoy looking for other Japanese Luxury like Nissans Infinity, they aren't at the level that Lexus is. But if you're inquisitive, test drive each and see it for yourself.
Good luck and have fun when you get your new IS.
