This era of Hyundai was transitional and not a good purchase. They were either still using Mitsubishi engines, or on the 1st on Hyundai's internally engines. Neither was recognized for long lasting performance and I could recommend against this car. In the mid 90s they came out with a next generation that was better, and that was the time they 1st offferred the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. If the car has that warranty, and the warranty is still valid, then it may be a good purchase. Otherwise, it'll good bye to money to fix it.
The good news is these cars were pretty low tech, and safer than their competitors at that size. The low tech nature of them means they're less complex to fix than Hondas and Toyotas of the same time period.

I am a Hyundai supporter today, but I could not trust that generation of Hyundai's.
Hyundai quality turned around in 2001, so anything before that's a coin flip. If you're purchasing something for a couple hundred bucks, it's good, but I would not count on it lasting for more than a couple years based on miles and condition, of course .
