Firstly Let me state that I am a Volvo Master Technician.
They are great cars. They aren't cheap to preserve. Just to add to the last comment about resale values my 1998 Volvo with 140,000 miles on it's still worth over $3500.
Majority of Volvo cars are turbocharged, so I could put them in a performance group. Volvo is an understated performance car which gives you a break on your insurance bill.
By the way my 1990 Volvo drove over 246,000 miles before I got rid of it, it wasnt broken.
Might I also add that the car in the Guiness book of world records for the most mileage on it's a Volvo which is still driven today.
Anyway take into consideration who answears your questions.
Volvo is owned by Ford. Ford bought Volvo in 1999.
They are good cars, relaible cars, and the safest cars on the road. I work on these cars every day. People neglect them constantly. with the neglect they get, they still get the people form point A to B.
People don't change their oil for 15,000 to 20,000 miles and than they say the car is crap. People put holes in their oil pans and drive the car to the dealer with no oil and they say the car is crap.
Here is the beauty of these cars most of the time I put an oil pan on, and people drive the car back home with no damage.
Dont blame a good dependable car for peoples abuse, ignorance, and arrogance.

It may be. But more it's a sensible European car with a repute for dependability and safety. They make some pretty sporty models, but most aren't. the sporty ones tend to be a little to heavy to manage like a true high performance car.

Volvo holders think it is an "elitist"'s but it is not, and it has a poor fix history.

Ford owns Volvo but they are not Fords. The R models are high performance models.

volvo has different models.if you look at their badges closely,it shows the preparation of the car.the 't'which stands for turbo,'r' for racing.they have extra push on engine output.it may be qualified as a high performance car.others change their engine management modules to give the car more muscle.
and volvo is owned by ford.
although the maintenance of the car is costly.
