I've been told that my in laws Lexus S200 has more than one ignition coil?
As far as I was aware, engines only have one ignition coil. His car is running poor, and he's been told that each valve or cylinder has a coil on it and they will have to do disgnostics to fix it. Is this a rip off or are they right?

Ok so each cylinder has it is own coil pack, is there anyway to do self diagnostics I know on my 98 Celica I can use a paper clip and based on the flashing from the engine managment light I can diagnose quite lots etc . Is there any short cuts?.?? and I gather it is as easy to fit one of these coils as a normal coil?

you may be able to take you car to a certified ASC mechanic to have your car worked on. you may be able to go to Toyota, etc., be sure you keep your receipts. If you do take your car someplace else, your warranty won't be voided, if you have the correct paperwork. At our Lexus place, we have never heard of a S200. We need more details.

They are correct many engines today use coil per cylinder. As these may be costly they'll have to do diagnostics to find out which coil is flawed. Its not a rip off Regards Mike

Lexus isn't a car to be worked on at home. It takes special tools, computer equipment and software programs to fix these cars.

To try to do anything to a Lexus outside of the dealership may void the warranty and most of the time cost you five times more when you must resort to the dealer to fix it.

Always trust a Lexus dealership..they aren't there to rip you off.

I could only trust a certified Lexus mechanic to touch a Lexus.
