My family has had subarus for the last 25 years. The cars last a long time as long as all the regular engine work was done. Our last Subaru lasted just about 400k.

If serviced on a regular basis, it should last well into the 200 300k miles. The 4cyl engine in the forester is plenty big enuff for it,it will be good on gas also. They do have some headgasket problems,so I could see if I could get service history on that issue.

At least 20 years with minimal maintence, those cars will last a long time if not forever.

OK, you'll want to listen closely to be sure the wheel bearings are not noisy.if they're, replace the bearings and pack with molly grease. Other than that, maybe replace the timing belt. that is it. They last forever and have a lifetime rust free ensure.
