Mitsubishi Eclipse will not start when hot? |
|
1999 Eclipse 2.0 L. here is what I know from driving it it is my daughter's car . Drive it till engine is completely warm, then turn it off. it'll restart now, but if you wait five or ten minutes it'll just crank till it cools down. there's no spark when it just cranks and it never dies while running. I expected it was to get fuel but after reading other posts, I have to confirm that. To me it is an evident heat issue but it is been years since I tinkered with cars. there aren't error codes and the only thing that isn't stock is the air cleaner her boyfriend replaced the stock one with a "better" one that draws air directly from the engine compartment.

Sounds like it could be a Crank position sensor. you'll have to have someone with a scan computer to see the signals from the cam and crank sensors when the problem is happening. If the signal is blank, you'll know what sensor it's. This is a common indication of these sensors.

You have to take this car to a shop for a dual scope analysis. I agree with the other answer, but when I worked in a shop, I ended up having to dually scope the cam position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor because both tested good as far as ohms of resistance, but had to really watch a bar graph with the car running to see which one lost the signal causing the car to stall. Same thing on startup.
