What is the best year model 4x4 that mitsubishi montero has made? I have a 1994 LS model V6 3.0 and I'd like to turn it into my fun 4x4 off raod toy. is it worth it or am I supposed to purchase a different model? I'm wanting to use up seven eight great to change engine and trany to make this my off road car. Any tell for or against it could be appreciated. Has anybody done such a transition?

thanks
Z

What kind of wheeling do you plan on doing?

The Gen II LS model is already able and for basic trails most 4x4 trails you will not have issues with the Monty.

With an added traction aid LSD, Locker, etc., suspension lift 2" longer coils and torqued torsion bars, bigger tires 33x12.5"x15 on new rims 15x8 and armor 1/4" thick steel nerfs AKA rock sliders you may be able to easily make it through a hard core rock crawling trail like the Rubicon Trail or a quick desert running inside reason, it is not a pre runner after all .

But again your meant kind of wheeling is important to knowing what kind of mods you may want to do.

Be sure you check out the Mitsubishi 4x4 forums at 4x4wire.com. most likely the best Mitsu 4x4 forums w/out question in N. America.

HTH.

The money should go towards a suspension lift kit. New firmer shocks and springs. Also new off road tires and off road bumpers and those head light/tail light metal guards that prevent them from being damaged off road.

For the engine and transmission. You do not need a new one. Just give it a tune up.
