I have a friend that has a stock 94 camaro ragtop, with LT1 350. he wants more throttle answer and hp, about 50hp.. I'm thinking a catback exhaust, chip and throttle body..he has a cold air intake already. ideas please? we have a 1000 $ budget.. we want it to be emissions legal. in Texas where they do a drivability dyno test on it to pass inspection. thanks..if you propose a chip, give details with price..

Being the owner of now two fourth Generation f bodies. My 1st being a 98 M6 TransAm totaled and now an 02 A4 Camaro Z28. I have done my part of performance mods on both the TA and the Z28. Thro, I tried one of the Hypertech ppp3 re programmers on my x 96 Impala SS. Never again, that to me was the biggest waste of $350. bucks, I have ever done. But, here is some information on the hand held re programmer. Thro, I could propose going with a custom tuned program from Tunercat or 'The Ostrich' from Moates.

Q: What performance "chips/programs" are available?

A: For the 1993 cars, Hypertech, Jet Technologies, Z Industries and Superchips make substitute chips. HP increases differ from 15 up to 30. but, in 1994 and after, chips are soldered into the on board computer and can not be removed. Hypertech gets around this with their Power Programmer, a hand held "computer" which plugs into the PCM module under the driver side dash, and reprograms the stock chip. Performance gains are nearly the same as replacing the chip. The programmer costs about $300, considerably more than the $150 $200 you'd expect to pay for a substitute chip.

The Hypertech Program increases redline and shift points on auto trannies by about 500 RPM over stock, and it improves the fuel and timing curves. The cooling fans are forced to coming on at lower temperatures. Any kind of speed limiter will be overridden. It may also adjusting the speedometer for changes to aftermarket gears like a 3.73 . but, it does not change the fractional throttle shift points on cars with auto trannies., with the programmer, fractional throttle shifts will still happen at higher RPMs than with the stock gearing. But most businesses can create a custom chip or program to overcome this.

The Programmer may also be sent back to Hypertech to be reprogrammed to take benefit of mods like headers, camshafts, and superchargers. One other thing to remember is to run 92+ octane fuel with the chip/programmer. Otherwise the engine is most likely going to knock caused by the timing change.

Plus, there is some other tricks you may be able to do to get some more hp out of the LT1 in the links below.

Good luck.

Go with a small nitrous oxide system pretty easy to install, doesn't change any original engine operating parameters and typically, only kicks on at large open throttle.have to fill the bottle periodically based on handling but it is worth 100 150 HP based on system you get. may be shut off for dyno tests and doesn't get in the way with emissions.can also be removed when you sell the car or moved to another one. Put one on my brother's 96 Z28 in about six hours and he now runs 12.80 in the 1/4 mile with a 150 HP variant.

You can get a Super charger or turbo Charger put on your 5.7 L change the camshafts get a the engine rebuilt with better high quality parts. put in the best plugs, oil and filters. Put good wires on possibly get a chip. To Put in for more Horse power. Msd Ignition Aluminum drive shaft I guess if you go light weight your car could go faster maybe a carbon fiber hood or fiberglass A better exhaust system. that's what I did to my Camaro I use to make 225 horse now I make 325 which is pretty good.

I own a shop, and think you're on to the right answer. A good set of headers, some good pipes, and some good flowing cat converters & mufflers will do wonders for the car. A $1,000 budget will not get you much, so I could propose spending it on the exhaust system. This is where you'll get the most bang for the buck, and you could pick up that 50 horses. Check out fuelairspark.com for an upgrade for the computer, but then again for that amount of money I do not know you'll be able to get both the exhausts, and a computer upgrade. Like I said before, the exhaust is where you may be able to pick up the most for the money. You may also check out chevyhiperformance.com and they have all types of ideas that you may use, with much info on where to get the upgrades. They ran a article in their magazine not long ago about this, and if you may be able to find it online, it's well worth reading. Its full of cheap things one can do to make more power on a budget.
Glad to help, Good Luck.

Put a ''Helix Tower'' on it. About a $100.00 at local hot rod shop, quicker throttle answer, and fuel mileage.
