My 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle's speedometer isn't working,1600ccaircooled. Is this an easy fix can I do?

The speedometer cable operates off of the left front wheel bearing cap.Most of the time they just come loose and slip into the cap.They should have a clip that holds it in place.I could check this 1st before doing anything else.

either the cable became disconnected or broke.
get a chiltan's repairmanual for the car it has step by step for all repairs @ naapa store
