My 1987 VW Golf makes a creaking sound in the front when I come to a stop. Any ideas?
Just as I come to a stop. Sort of like a staggered grabbing sound. I just put new front brake pads on.

possibly your new brake pads are embedding in. If, after some days, the sound persists, check the bushings on your front suspension, particularly the
control arms and stabiliser bar.

there is most likely a rock lodged in the brake pad or something is out of alignment

You most likely have some worn out bushings and suspension parts

If you just put on new brake pads, then it is most likely your brake rotor. To test it, take one of the wheels off and run your finger on the rotor, feeling to see if it's warped or smooth.
I had a Volvo with the same problem, kind of a grinding sound when I stopped. But replacing the pads fixed the problem.
So if the rotor is warped, which may be the case, you'd like to get that replaced, not only for to get rid of the sound, but also for safety, as it'll decrease your stopping distance.
Good luck.

Depending on when you last had it done, did you have the drums or rotors whichever you have on your car turned? A good rule of thumb is to have them turned once and the next time you're due for pads, replace the drums or rotors. comparatively inexpensive to do.

One of the pads isn't secure installed wrong or you didn't come back the rotors and they're meshing in still.
Need to take separately and check to be safe.
