My 1998 1.3 Hyundai Accent fan isn't kicking in? |
|
My 1998 1.3 Hyundai Accent fan isn't kicking in, checked relay, fuses all seem to be ok, I have been told there should be a thermal switch on the radiator but I can not see one. I know the fans working as I wire it directly to the battery. Can anybody help .

the cooling fan is run by a coolant temerature switch. this switch is either a one wire or two wire switch that's screwed into the engine, typically in the head or intake manifold in one of the coolant passages, not the radiator. if the relays and fuses are good, and you may be able to run the fan by putting direct power to it, then I could suspect the switch is bad.. your local parts store can be able to assist you find it using a part locater map.. it's an easy switch to fix, unscrew the old one and screw the new one in.. the hardest part is really finding it.

Faulty thermostat.
Let a mechanic handle it.

Looking down the radiator from the top you may want to see a big "NUT" with two wires coming out it. This is your thermal switch, it operated in the same way as a kettle switch and can over time fail.
