My 91 subaru legacy four wheel drive stopted working what could because that?

If it's the four wheel drive that stopped working, and now only has power to two wheels, it may be the switch arrangement that changes the car over from two to four wheel drive, or the real power train linkage.

my mom has the same car but 1990. hers turned off a couple times when she has been parked, before she pulled out. it may have to do with the starter. go to a car mechanic to see what the problem is.

Start with checking the fuse and relay.

There is a fuse in the engine bay that's marked 4WD or something to that effect. Check to see if that fuse is blown.

My guess is you have an EA 82 motor, hard little man.. and most likely broke a timing belt. Find a local member in your area, get a Subaru book and make a new friend and bond with your Subaru. Possibly get someone over and assist you trouble shoot your car..
