My 92 Civic's steering wheel squeaked & grinding.horn then stopped around when it did. what is up?
For about two weeks my '92 Honda Civic's steering wheel maked a awful squeaking and grinding sound whenever I made a turn. Then the sound stopped and so did my horn around the same time, coincidentally. anybody know what is up? Are they connected?

This is the electrical contacts for your horn that have worn out.The contacts are typically a ring of copper or brass and a spring loaded carbon button that rides the circumference of the ring. When the carbon button wears out or breaks that was the grinding sound you heard then the spring will pop out and typically fall into the steering column someplace.

My '93 accord steered wheel squeeled when I turned it. I put some power steering liquid in and it stopped. Go to a fast lube place and have them check your power steering liquid. If its low, they can fill it up. I drive an old car too, and I have to carry around an variety of fluids just in case: oil, coolant, power steering liquid.

What has most probably happened to you is a broken "slip ring" or cable reel. The cable reel is between the steering wheel and steering column. It holds a band wire that twists around a common axis. The function of the cable reel is to let the steering wheel to turn freely while allowing electronic communication to pass through uninterrupted. Functions like the horn, cruise control and airbag pass through this device. The sound you were most likely hearing was the wire inside the reel breaking separately and sooner or later failing.
You will have to replace it. I could recommend purchasing a used one from a junkyard since they're usually dependable parts. you'll have to remove the steering wheel and steering column covers to access the reel and its connections. make sure to use caution when handling the airbag, and put the red "dummy plug" while the airbag is removed. The plug is on the access cover of the steering wheel.
