My display thing is screwing up lines are showing up everywhere in my 2000 A4?
It's really annoying and I hear this is a common problem with audis of my year. What can I do about it? it is only to get worse.

Your "display thing" is called a Driver info Display. Yes, it's a common problem with B5 A4s. Unfortunately, it isn't something that may be fixed easily. The only thing you may be able to do is replace the complete instrument cluster. it'll not be cheap to fix either. sorry about the bad news.
