My tailgate on my sierra pickup wont open? |

ok, I did what yall said. now when I pull the handle I do see a rod on the left side moving and that's where I hear it open, but the rod on the right isn't observable and the system on that side doesn't move. I tried reaching in but can not feel it where it should be in relation to the left. So what next?

I just went through the same thing. My rod on the right side dropped inside the gate. I had to pull the latch assy to retrieve the rod and reset it to the handle, I also had to buy new rod clips for it. This is a common problem for Chevy and GMC from 1988 to 1995.

lift the handle and look, there will be two rods, one from each side, see which one isn't moving, if the both are then its at the latches on the side which requires a bit more work. if you can not see two then theres your problem

The only suggestion, I have could be to attempt fishing for the missing rod with a straightened metal coat hanger. You may have to attempt a couple of times. Once you get it fished out, then you have to figure out why it came loose, it may be a broken clip or possibly replacing the whole handle assy.

I've seen this happen, the side that won't open has a broke part inside the tailgate, you will have to take to the dealer and have it fixed, it should not cost over $70.

to remove your latch you remove two three screws on the inside of your tailgate side facing inside the bed
otherwise if your in a pinch you may be able to attempt to manually open that right latch using a long flat tip screwdriver
