If your oil pressure is considerably higher cold than it's when it',s warmed up, it may be indicative of a worn engine such that the clearances of the major and rod bearings increased from wear and allowing the oil to pass more easily.

If the pressure is low cold also as hot there will generally be a temperature related difference, it can be a weak oil pump or oil pressure break valve spring.

But 1st things 1st, you have to have a mechanical oil pressure test to find out if indeed you're suffering low oil pressure or a "skewed" oil pressure sensor.

In any way GM minimum specification for that engine is five psi at idle, in gear, warm engine. I realize nobody wants to see oil pressure that low, but GM claims that engine damage won',t happen above five psi. Good luck.

The problem is the oil pressure Gage sending unit.I had a 92 Chevy PU and the pressure could read zero at hot idle.Change the sending unit on the engine. They leak when they're old and don',t read right.
