I have had a 924 and a 911. friend of mine had a 924 Turbo. My recomendation could be to choose a 944 rather than a 924. virtually same body, same interior more power . Go to your local Barnes & Noble or another bookstore and check out 'Excellence', it is a Porsche magazine. Periodically they put out price guides for the different models. 924s are on occasion prone to quirky problems. And on occasion they suffer from costly problems. you may be able to find a decent priced 924, but if anything big goes wrong, you could end up putting as much in to fixing it as what the car is worth..911s are great.. but not generally cheap. I could most likely avoid 912 just personal preference.
I do not know exactly what your budget is, but I could recomend looking for an 80's model 911 w/3.0 or 3.2 engine. you may be able to most likely find a late 70's early 80's w/2.7, but those are not generally a prefered engine.
Whatever you find be sure it has it is records with it. If not, be sure it is checked out by a good/reputable Porsche mechanic. the cost of an inspection may FAR outweigh any unforseen problems at some point.
Good luck . If you have never had a Porsche before, you will LOVE it .

first of all porches aren't cheap and if they're there's something wrong with them.

bit of a toss up really. porsches are usually not well recognized for their reliabilty. honestly, majority of people who own porsches do not take the best of care of them besides the religious car washing and waxing. then again I have seen jalopy beat up porsches at least ten years old still humming quite nicely. if you may be able to get the maintenance records of this porsche or talk to the last owner if possible, then you'd get a better idea of it is true condition.

no, unreliable used car, get her a 911or 912, but get it checked out, the 911 and 912 will hold value maybe go up in price, 924 is a dog

No a 924 wasn't the best of cars and most haven't been tended over the years. Find a good Porsche shop in you area and tell them what your looking for and how the car will be used and ask what car the could recommend.

I'd purchase her a Pinto over a Porsche. No offence but if my wife wanted a Porsche, I'd tell her to purchase it herself.
