The firing order for a '91 great Marquis 5.0L SEFI V8 is one five four two six three seven 8. The transmission you have is an AOD. The best substitute transmission could be one out of any other '91 model year Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis/Town Car car. If you choose one out of a Crown Victoria, be sure it is NOT one from a Police Interceptor model because there's no Manual Low selection, caused by its distinctive valve body configuration on this specific application. If you choose a rebuild, some of the interior parts may be replaced with ones from the newer AOD E or 4R70W transmissions, if I recall properly. The weakest link in those transmissions are the direct clutch and the overdrive bands. As far as recalls, caused by its age, I am not aware of any site that will give you recall info. If you want the BEST fix manual, call up HELM Inc., the OEM manual supplier for ALL Ford merchandise. But be prepared to pay a HEFTY price. caused by the era of the car, I doubt one could still be available although. Hope this helps.
EDIT: that is why I particular for a afterward build AOD transmission, caused by the many updates that transmission has went through since its introduction in 1980. As I mentioned, the direct clutch and the overdrive bands have a tendency to burn out causing it to lose third and fourth gears totally in the most serious cases. The changing in and out of overdrive is just a feature of this specific transmission throughout driving at city speeds. The best solution to this problem is to use OVERDRIVE only throughout driving at highway speeds.
