Most newer cars have a drain plug on the transmission pan just like on the oil pan. If by any chance yours does not have one, you'll have to loosen/remove some of the bolts from the transmission pan so that the liquid will start to drain out. once it stops loosen/remove more till you have the pan removed from the car to finish draining the rest. if you must take this technique, there are a couple of things to watch out for, 1st off tearing the gasket. some people believe that if you drop the pan all together you may want to change the gasket if it's damaged or not, I say only change it if it's damaged, if not save your self the money. also you may want to watch out for any debris that can get in while the pan is off that will block up your transmission, and 3rd be sure that you do not damage the filter or you'll have to replace it all together. Now one thing that you may want to think about, is that if you never changed the transmission liquid, nor had it changed in the past, some of the friction material from the bands in the auto transmission could have worn off and is being circulated in the liquid and is being used to help the bands to there job and that changing the liquid will remove that material and because some minor slippage, but that's only in the most extream cases. if it's a manual then you do not have to worry about that because they have real gears not bands.
Hopefully all goes well for you, and good luck.
