I had a '73 standard not Super Beetle that I sold in '95, and I still feel like I sold my soul when I sold that car. It was good on gas, and it was a dependable car to drive. It was easy to service, and most repairs were performed in no time. It was easy to customize, because there are hundreds of parts houses across the US for stock and custom parts. though winters here in VA are not really bad, we had some snowstorms in the early 90's with heavy snow. That Bug went through snow like a hot knife through butter. I'm 6', and I still felt it was spacious believe it or not., and I loved my Bug because it was my place to take pleasure in the open road, and just be myself.

I HATED MY BEETLE.
I owned 2. The 1st one I owned was a 2001 GLX Turbo. It had many problems with the mass air flow system that recirculates the air for the turbo system. I began Better Business Bureau Lemon Law preceedings and the night before my arbitartion date, someone from VW called and offered me a brand new 2002 GLX as a substitute they knew they goed to lose, and didn't want the car classified as a lemon .
That brings me to car #2. I got rid of it about six months ago. It was problem free in the beginning. Then it seemed as although everyhting went wrong. inside a period of some months the car started to blow fuses and have different issues. The biggest issues included:
coolant system failure, to get stuck in park on many instances, stalling usually, etc.
In my opinion, the new beetle is the most unreliable car made. I could understand one lemon, but not two in a row, from two different model years.
