It happened twice that my nissan altima 1996 engine stoped throughout making a low speed turn. Brought the car to a shop and found a knock sensor malfunctioning code. Is there any other reason that can because the same thing and can I do the fix myself?

attempt going to a different gas station or using a higher octane. Most cheap fuel detonate before top dead center and knock sensor detect this and retard or advance timing to according. I am not sure which engine you have 4cyl or six and not sure where nissan place this sensor but most of the knock sensor are placed on front engine block with two screw.

You most likely just need a new knock sensor, it is not unheard of for them to die after ten years. Can you replace it yourself, I do not really know. Some engines it is a pretty easy thing to exchange out, others are much harder, I do not know the specifics of yours.

There are lots of things that could because this stalling problem but the smart thing is to replace the knock sensor. The knock sensor is typically mounted with a screw or small screw to the side of the cylinder block, and it is typically easy to replace if you know where to look. For $20 or you may be able to get a Haynes or Clymer manual for your car that will show the place of the knock sensor. Otherwise, if you do not know where to look, you better leave it to a mechanic.
