As I have heard, the 917/10 was a shorter car for tighter tracks, and the /30 also called the LH30 or langhack wich stood for long rear was for longer tracks like Lemans. The /30 was more stable at higher speeds. As far as my thoughts, what may be better than building and driving a race car with no limitations. Unlimited engine displacement, unlimited hp, unlimited fuel. It was simply a matter of building the fastest car you could, and Porsche set the world on it is ear with an air cooled flat 12 putting out over 1100 HP. My family was with VW/Porsche since the mid fifties, so I have lots of fond memories of those 917's. I love the 917, but I would not mind having a Mcclaren, or Chapperall, or any of the other cars that ran in what was most likely one of the most excititng racing series ever, CanAm.
