Thinking about a VW Passat, auto and buying it used. Wondering how many miles I can get out if it. The Chevy Malibu I bought just a year ago has already gone badon me at 102,500 miles with great maintence on my part.

Depends on the way you drive, Depends on the model, depends if its a gas engine or a diesel engine, depends if it's in excellent form or not, depends on tuneup condition, alignment, tire pressures, road and speed conditions, shall I go on ?

Which one? Highway or City or combined? Auto or stick? There are too many variables to be able to tell you what the "maximum milage" you may be able to expect is. Or are you talking about the car's life expectancy? Cared for properly, todays cars typically don’t have trouble lasting 200,000 miles without big engine work. Again, although, it depends on how you drive and where you drive. regardless what kind of VW you purchase, you may be able to expect to get excellent fuel milage when in comparison to cars of alike weight, size, hp and cost. they are usually good cars.

You should get around 500K from you VW engine, you maintain the car well etc. I got rid of my passat with 235K on clock, engine was sound as it has been checked over every five 10K with oil change everytime. This was a diesel. Engines these days will last so much longer, the car itself is more probably to fall separately than the engine.

Well I am pretty sure a lot because if you think about it the old Beetle which was made by Volkswagen is still running to this day like in Mexico, but then again the ones in Mexico are new, but trust me the engine lasts forever.
