what make the engine run lean ? what can I change out?

fuel filter, Mass Air Flow Sensor, vacuum leak, dirty injectors, bad fuel pressure regulator, loose air inlet tube, if it is flex fuel flex fuel sensor, O2 sensor shorted to power heater circuit . E 85 in non flex fuel car.

Possibly egr valve, vacuum leak, may be a bad sensor,any codes showing that could help narrow things down.

it most likely has over 100,000 miles.

Nice handling, spacious [ stationwagon practical but generally in the shop. Two transmissions.One at 40 000 the other one at 200 000.It's a real shame .Ford won't or can't listen they keep right on building garbage like this.
