Who has a Nissan Pathfinder and what do you think of it?

I am considering the buy of a 2001 Pathfinder SE 4WD. supply any comments or suggestions you may have about this car, both good and bad experiences.

think about this. If your purchasing a stick trans, and if Nissan did not change the way they built the early models, the joint trans/transfer case weights 300 lbs. and requires lots of time to change the clutch. As for rust, look over the suv really good. If you do not see any rust then get it rust proofed, and not just undercoated. Also check the mileage and get a carfaxed history. People tend to defeat what they drive and this one is six years old now. Average driving could be 90,000 miles, something to check on. look for head gasket leaks, exhaust studs broken, water in the oil or oil in the water. Was the oil changed every 3,500 miles ? Enjoy your Pathfinder, Mark

I was a Nissan Datsun mechanic for many years. I has been forced to stop in 1988, health. Nissan is a good product but it may be a whole lot better. See where thy place against other asian makes.

i have one. the tires are costly to replace. it uses lots more gas than my old corolla. my dogs like to ride in it.
it looks like a tough car.
check with kbb.com to be sure that you are not paying too much.

Mark W has some good points for an old timer like me 51year old Nissan Master Tech but 2001 pathfinder is the 3.5 engine like the 350Z engine is complex and must have oil changes done punctually. And I find the suspension soft make sur you verify with your local dealership for warranty repairs and ask for photo copies of work if any done they are long lasting Trucklets. Did you look at the NEW Pathfinder year end sale payments may be less NEW

YES they're GOOD VEHICLES, be sure you're to get THE 3.5 ENGINE I THINK SOME OF THE 01'S MADE IN EARLY 2000 STILL HADE THE SMALLER ENGINE. NOT SURE although.. THE 3.5 IS A GOOD ENGINE THAT PUTS OUT A 245 hp WHICH IS five LESS THAN THE TOYOTA TUNDRA V eight FOR THAT YEAR.. I'll TELL YOU although THAT I HAD TO REPLACE TWO SENSORS,, WHICH ARE recognized FOR FAILURE ON THIS car. THE VTC SENSOR RIGHT SIDE, AND THE O2 SENSOR THE RED ONE, INSTALLED BOTH MYSELF, VTC WAS ABOUT $80, AND THE O2 WAS ABOUT $130 bought FROM THE DEALER.. WHICH I RECCOMEND,, WELL U can not GET THE VTC SENSORS ANYWHERE ELSE

I considered purchasing a used one some number of years ago, looked at mid 1990's models and decided they had lots of auto. transmission problems, maybe newer ones are better.
