headunit is first and its important to get a good 1. go with kenwood excelon any model is a great headunit, or alpine. id get one with at least a 4volt preout voltage. you can get kicker cvr subs purchase one get one free now, $150 for a set of 12s. get an amp that gives them their full rms and that will hit pretty hard

Call or visit the nice people at Crutchfield:

crutchfield.com

They've forgotten more than most other auto stereo shops ever knew.

Well.. to tell you the truth, if you want tremendous amount of bass you'll need more than $700. honest.. you have to start with a good head unit, about around $250 $500. a good amp, $250 $1500, and some good subs, $90 $300, with a good box, sealed around $50 $150, ported, the best for more sound, around $100 $250 based on where you get it from.. and lets not forget the install of all this stuff.. $150 $300 for total install.. now this is just an estimate for good stuff.. yes you may be able to get a system for $700, most likely with a good warranty, but it wont compare to the amount of time you go back and forth because something is generally breaking or wrong. this is a case where You really Get What You Pay For..

you could attempt bumping it up to two 15's. a bit more money, but some 15's take the same watts to push it as some 12's. rockford fosgate p3's are great subs, and you may be able to find some for cheap on ebay. I do not know too much about memphis, but I do know that rockford subs hit really hard and they do not crap out on low notes. I could tell you to avoid kicker. though they may hit hard, I have heard that they do not handle the low notes well.

I love my Memphis 12s. I have them in my 2001 Honda Accord. I have had them for about five months now and they sound great and I'm totally happy with them. I have them hooked up to a 500 watt JBL amp and I have a Jenson seven in flip out. My system cost about a $1200. if I was you I could look in to a sony headunit and sony amp or a Pioneer head unit.
For about 600 dollars you may be able to get without taxes or install
two Memphis 12s + box
A Kenwood amp cardomain.com/item/KENKAC7203cardomain.com/item/KENKAC7203">cardomain.com/item/kenkac7203.
A Pioneer Head Unit cardomain.com/item/PIODEHP3900MPcardomain.com/item/PIODEHP3900MP">cardomain.com/item/piodehp390.
The amp and head unit is from Cardomain.com, Memphis Subs can not be bought online so you could have to find a Audio shop that sold them.
Also cardomain.com has great Open Box deals which you may be able to get some high end on the cheap.
Hope this helps.

you can do it for under 700, but it'll be hard to find the amp.
First thing is a head unit. A simple head unit like the pioneer 3900 for 129.99 on crutchfield.com gets you free shipping and everything else you need free of charge like installation information. crutchfield.com/S 65IUN1rM8jU/cgi bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=130DEHP390 crutchfield.com/S 65IUN1rM8jU/cgi bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=130DEHP390 ">crutchfield.com/s 65iun1rm8ju.
This has the pre amp outputs you need and amp controls fitted to the head unit.
Next thing you need is subs. REALLY great deal crutchfield again kicker compvr subs you may be able to get them purchase one get one free, free shipping two 12"s could be $150 crutchfield.com/S 65IUN1rM8jU/cgi bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=2067C12VR4crutchfield.com/S 65IUN1rM8jU/cgi bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=2067C12VR4">crutchfield.com/s 65iun1rm8ju.
So your still under 300 dollars and trust me they are great subs.
Next thing amp. not hard to find a cheap amp with lots of power. you could search ebay,or go with a cheaper brand like profile
crutchfield.com/S 65IUN1rM8jU/cgi bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=489AP2000crutchfield.com/S 65IUN1rM8jU/cgi bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=489AP2000">crutchfield.com/s 65iun1rm8ju.
That amp has at least enough power to make your kickers THUMP loud
Last thing is a wiring kit. can come from anywhere CC, crutchfield, walmart typically about 30 40$.
To install talk to someone whos done it before and ask them for help. it nearly never works the 1st time you wire it
