The WRX STI is one of the best performance bargains out there. it is solidly built, it is blazingly fast and it sticks to the road like it is glued. It also has a cheap interior pre 2008, a firm ride and astronomical insurance costs. but, not many other cars offer so much real world practicality interior room, a real trunk, decent fuel economy and a superb AWD system with such high levels of performance.

Well, I am predisposed because I totally love the WRX STI.

However, the new '08 model style has put me off as in, I think the front end is hideous. I shall wait to see if their next generation is better looking, before I get a new one.

Is it fun to drive? oh, yes.
Is it fast? reliable? exciting? yes, yes, yes

Its a great car I know many people that race and pro rally them. Insurance cost is through the roof and fix parts are expensive. Not the kind of thing you may be able to take anywhere to be serviced either. If you know a good Subaru mechanic or are in an Area that doesn't mind working on them and can pay for the insurance, go for it. I happen to like the car.

Theyre great cars. I own and race my 2005 STi, and love the car.

As for an 06+, I could get an EVO before an STi. they are somewhat faster, drive a bit better, look much better, and are a more receptive to mods granted, all STis and evos are receptive to modding .

If you are to get an STi although, you seriously have to take it to some track or autocross events. Its 100x better on the track than the street.

theres quite some misinformation here although. The STi, while from rally inheritance, is a track car, not a rally car. Insurance also isn't as high as they want you to think though not cheap . Subaru is good about your warranty. My local dealer kept a man I knows car under warranty, although he had about 450hp, tracked it on a regular base, and had all kindsa aftermarket parts they did all the work on the car, and put the guarentee in writing . Not all dealers will do this, clearly, but many are very leniant.

Mitsubishi used to be really bad with their warranties, but theyve fixed the issue in case you read anything bad about the EVOs warranties

I think it's a great car if you're into motorsports. The interior is basic because your money is going into things that make the car go faster. If it's your daily driver and you are not going to track the car, I propose you look at a certified pre owned Audi S4 or BMW M3. Both of which may be had for the price of a new STi, offer alike performance, and have more features and amenities that make them easier and less tiring to live with daily.
