No spark at all but when I jump the pink wire on the distributor to the positive side of the battery it fires right up and stays running.
When I shut off the key it stays running till I pull the jumper wire off.
What is wrong??????
How do I fix it so it starts on it is own???
PS it's an HEI big cap distributor the coil is on the top of the cap.

Without jumping the wire there's no juice to it there should be 12volt when the key is on.
I am also ASE certified but this has me stumped.
All fuses are good, relay is good wiring is all good.

The pink wire is an ignition power supply that comes from the ignition switch on the top of the steering column through some kind of fuse or fusible link. you'll have to trace back to find where the wire is open or the fuse or link is burnt open, then why.

Pink wire is key on power. Not power all the time. Check Ignition switch. although it turns over that does not mean there's a problem. If not there check fuses.

sounds like it may be your ignition leads.start from your steering column.follow ignition leads trough firewall and see if they're broken, cut, corroded..etc.
