Why does my car make sounds when I reverse?

Postby Lolerfalls » Sun Aug 26, 2007 7:14 am

On my 95 Suburban, whenever I reverse it makes a wierd sound, kinda between a deafening hiss, and the sound worn brake pads make. The thing is I just replaced the drum pads and disc pads for the brakes and inspected them for dust etc. Another thing be aware of is that it only makes the sound when the car is in "reverse" If I am in "neutral" and I just let the car roll back it doesn't make the sound. Could this be sign of a drive line problem or a transmission problem?

The only thing I can imagine being the problem is the reverse gear in the transmission. If it was any other problem, then it could most likely do it in drive also.
