Question about a car with no muffler.?

Alright, I am just wondering and I know this is strange and random. Does a car lose its hp when it has no muffler? I know its a weird question, and I thanks to anybody who takes the effort and time in answering. Thanks. have a great day. god bless.

engines are intended for some back pressure so yes you can loose some power

It'll lose it is torque curve, not to much hp although.

No, really it gains. that is why they put Headers on an engine so it can breath better, Add a turbocharger and increase it more.....Nuf Said

some of them will,some engines really use back pressure to make them run better, if the back pressure escapes to fast it causes them to loose power,use to on the older cars loosing a muffler meant it wold run lots better but this is not true on the newer ones,good luck on it.

No. If anything, you may want to be able to get better exhaust gas flow and be able to rev the engine faster, more easily and be able to speed up faster.

no. as a matter of fact caused by the reduced back pressure on the engine you really get some ponies in the heard. I say gained your just let them out.

You may loose the car...There is fire coming out of the exhaust system. Besides to get a ticket, you could start a fire.

They sound like a farm implement but I have had some that will really run better caused by a lack of back pressure.
