Do BMW M series cars need a lot of maintenance?

Postby Karogros » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:08 am

I now drive a Toyota Highlander, but am wanting to purchase a sports sedan/coupe. Really like the BMW M3 reviews, but am a little worried that I'll have to dish out big bucks for maintenance afterward.

Does anybody here have any experience with Bimmers and other sports sedans?

Suggestions for why other cars are better are welcome

It will be costly, but after the free service for four years or 50,000 miles

The servicing costs for the M series cars are a pretty bit higher than for the normal models. Also M series particular parts are costly.

Also while not overall less dependable than the standard cars the engines are lots more greatly strung and M series engines don',t tend to last as long. though you may want to stuill be able to see the wrong side of 150,000 miles.

The big service, the inspection two which is due every 4th service, may be 1000 in the UK and that',s before you need any other bits like brake replacing. M3 front brake discs rotors in the US I believe are around 500 and pads over 100.

So yes, expect highish running costs and servicing bills will be high if nothing goes wrong.

However in comparison to any other make with comparable performance they aren't particularly costly. Just look at how costly it's to preserve a 911.

So shortly don',t purchase an M3 and expect to run it for the same cost as a 330/335. it's a high performance car with alike potential to a Porsche 911 so expect to pay alike money to run one.

BMW',s are really well made cars, you won',t be going wrong if you choose to get one. The three series coupe are really good looking cars, the old ones still look stylish and in date, this is because BMW haven',t really changed the design the three series significantly through the years.

M3',s are the final three series and are seriously good looking cars in a sort of menacing way. but I know the tyres they have will be ',run flat', tyres and they are costly to replace and they do wear down quite quickly. Plus the insurance will be at the high end, most likely group 19 or 20. It won',t have a especially good fuel economy most likely about 22 mpg.

But I',d certainly get one, they',re still dependable, has a strong image, practical and you',ll certainly get a thrilling experience when driving it.
