How to remove cv joint (inner and outer) from shaft of corol

Postby Kamaris » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:37 am

Alex has the best answer.

I overhauled CV joints once and installed new boots because the axle 1984 Dodge was so costly. What a mess. All the old grease must be removed from the joints due to risk of contagion, and that's a big job. the pair of boots cost as much as a substitute axle does today. These days I never give messing with the joints a thought.

There is a little hidden clip on either sides, once removed then you'll have to use the hammer to take the joint separately.

My advice is these drive shafts are cheap to replace, you can get a newly rebuild one like new for $50 $60, providing that you give your old one back for substitute. These shafts are typically put together by the use of press, and it's never a smart idea to take it separately yourself, too much trouble, and the cost of parts, and labor may be more, just get a new one.As for removing the shaft from the car, well once you free the shaft from the wheel, use the hammer to push it out of the transmission,it should pop out.

Good Luck
