Does this happen with all '04 Jeep Libertys?

Postby John Krichghow » Sat Sep 01, 2007 11:11 pm

My husband and I just bought an '04 Jeep Liberty with only about 45k milies on it. the thing is the Check Engine light keeps coming on. we have taken it into the dealership three times and all they say is that it's the vac seal sensor and that there are not any leaks. more then likey the gas cap. but it is not loose. we're cautious when we put it on, but the light just came on again.

Does this happen to other jeep liberties too?

What should be do?

Yeah they seem a bit squirrely.. but luckly my husband is strong. We had 30 days to fix anything that goes wrong free of charge, and this all started before the 30 days was up. now that's past the 30 days my husband is still refusing to pay, because is started while under warenty.

They sent it to a jeep company we gat it at carmax and they were supossed to do a smoke test to see if there were any leaks or busted hoses. said it create anything.

They keep saying its the gas cap. but they have not replaced it. which again is squirrely

Tell them to check the Vacuum Canister, it maybe cracked or the hose came loose. Mine busted some years ago, and threw out the same code. Sounds like they just do not want to fix it. I have been there before. be sure they fix it before you warranty expires

My brother has an 04 Jeep Liberty and everything is pretty good, the light never come on.I do not know if it happens with the most of Libertys but not to my brother's at least. Tell the dealership THEY'D BETTER FIX IT. and to stop giving you excuses, or take it to a mechanic you know well and have them check on the car. Good luck.

There is a rubber ring around the cap.

If it's missing get one at the dealer 10.00

That gives the seal back and the light off.

I fixed three this week Liberty . . . . .

Make sure when you put the gas cap back on that it clicks. That tells you it is on good.

The light turns on because there's a leak or the pump isn't working wright. Something needs to be replaced If its a leaking gas cap you have to replace it not just keep turning off the light.
