Wrangler intermittant starting problem after clutch substitute.?
Car: 2000 Jeep Wrangler, four L, 57,000 mi., stick.

2 wks ago, clutch went out replaced.
2 days afterward, intermittent starting problems. on occasion, turn key on, totally nothing, no clicks, etc. All other electrics O.K. Just no ignition. Other times starts good. Happens once or more nearly every day

Can so far start it by pumping clutch, rowing gear lever, and switching the ignition on/off some number of times.

Figured may be the clutch/ign'n interlock switch. Queried web, learned that switch may be bypassed by put a fuse in the fuse panel. Did that. Problem stayed.

Took the Jeep back. Shop duplicated problem. They said bad interlock switch although I told them I bypassed it and still had the problem . They replaced switch under dash, driver's side . Picked car up Monday. Started good Tues., Wed. Thursday, no go.

Did the rowing, pumping, and switching, got it started. Ran errands, it started three times.

Any suggestions?? Thanks much.

I have a five speed manual 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0L 85,000 mi. My problem sounds alike. I had no problems with the engine. After the clutch broke, I replaced it for approx. $800.00 and once I got the car back it started to hesitate, lurch forward, and on occasion, die out in traffic. it's an intermittent problem that's to get progressively worse. I took it to a mechanic that could not figure it out so I took it back to the dealer where I bought the car new. They say it needs a crankshaft sensor, new plugs, wires and distributor cap and the throttle and injectors have to be de carb'd. clean out all the carbon build up I will not be to get it back till Friday. I will see how it runs and post a answer. The dealer is charging $1034.22 for all the work. With a 15% off coupon it should be about $850.00 That sucks, but I have not spent much money on this car for big repairs only routine maintenance, if this fixes the problem, I guess I'm ok with the cost. I just hope nothing else goes wrong anytime soon..

check starter. be sure it's tight. the ground for the starter in the case, so it must be TIGHTLY bolted to bell housing.

They most likely did not clean the ground to the frame or engine when they where finished replacing the clutch you have a loose wire trace the big wires back from the battery to their termination points and take them loose clean them and hook back up. Check for breaks in the cables also. They may damaged the wire throughout the clutch substitute. I could start with the ground, then check the positive to the starter. Al of your juice comes from those points if not connected clean and properly nothing will come on or some things that do not draw much juice may come on and when you attempt to turn the car over they'll go dead till you release the ignition..Good Luck

Don't forget to check the connections on the solenoid for the starter, they may became loose or gotten damaged in the shop.

well think back what you pulled off to change the clutch, did you remove wires from the starter when it has been pulled, sounds like a bad connection at the starter,
