Question about Mazda 626 engine problems.? |

Is this explanation of the problem repairable or does the motor have to be replaced?
Mazda 626 Needs Motor
Number four cyl.rod bearing burned, will start up and run but only for short time. Interior Good condition,Newer Brakes and Tires.

You can not be 100% sure, particularly just depending on that description.
However, in regards to what is described:
If the rod bearing is burned you'll most likely have to rebuild the engine, and replace at least that one rod.
Unfortunately, as anybody who's rebuilt an engine before knows. you could find other issues. The head may have some warpage and require resurfacing. There may be damage to the crankshaft around the #4 connecting rod, requiring a new crankshaft or at least some creative machining.
Usually in these situation, it's best to assume you need a new engine.
